Mission: Reconciliation & Reconstruction [Fleet Plot]

Originally she'd thought that Malone had been exaggerating when he'd mentioned the eight hour ritual for saying hello. Though she'd quickly learned that he really hadn't. The talks themselves went decently fast after the original hello, but.... she was at least glad for the extra work. Settling back in her chair after the latest talk she pondered the fact she needed to write up the report on that first. Yet she couldn't help but to look over the recent incoming reports, one hand rubbing her stomach absentmindedly in hopes it might calm her nerves some, as she went though them.

"Ma'am, incoming transmission from Colonel Harper" Came the message from one of her aids.

"Patch him though, and make sure not to disturb me till I tell give you the all clear." Kassi said quickly hearing her.

"Aye ma'am." Sophia said as she patched though the connection.

The connection established, and Patrick saw his wife's face on the screen in front of him. He smiled a broad toothy smile at the sight of the woman he loved the most in the world. "Well, if it isn't the fearless desk pilot, Kassandra Harper, defeater of the paperclip."

Well that brought a soft laugh from her. "I don't know about that... they all tried to got together to take me down the other day. It got ugly... paperclips all over... but I showed them who was the boss." Kassi joked back before getting serious. "So, how are you? I've missed you."

"Well, I'm here, in the middle of a friggin' warzone." Harper replied, with the convenient timing of a flight of fighters flying low overhead. "Seems Richard and I can't stay away from the bloody things." He smiled, then turned serious. "I've been given my orders Kas, and there's a good chance I'll be out of contact for a while."

There was a flicker that touched the depths of her eyes, though just as quick it was gone. She knew how life could be for them and that this was a part of things, she also knew that no matter what they would make it though it all... at least she hoped they would. "You stay safe... I don't want to see your name cross my desk in one of those reports..." She said softly as she looked at him.

Patrick chuckled. "I'm a Colonel sweetie, I'm not fighting on the front line. Now if I'd been Richard, he was fighting on the line right up and including when they put three stars on his collar. Idiot. No, I'll be leading from where I'll do the most good - my command post, which'll be far behind the actual fighting."

"This is true... but then again, look at me... I shouldn't had gotten into the troubles that I did...." A slightly sheepish look touching her face as she mentioned that. After all, she had yet to figure out how she managed to get in half the trouble that she did. "No matter where one thinks they may be safe, it's not always a guarantee."

"Yes, but you are trouble personified." Patrick teased her. "I am a very sensible person who is as interesting as wallpaper paste. I don't get into trouble, and throughout all of our time together - it was always Richard who got into scrapes, never me. I was the one who bailed him out."

"You are more interesting than that. At least to me." Kassi said with a smile as she held Patrick's gaze. "Seems you do seem to attract the people in your life who needs someone a bit more sensible. Lets hope our little one takes a bit more after you in that fact... and you know... we really need to pick out a name..."

"We have plenty of time before we have to worry about that, and there's no way I'll be deployed that long." Patrick smiled. "Well then, lets hope our little guy has your looks and my brains, because lets face it, if it goes the other way around - the guy is screwed."

"You better not be, I want you here when she is born." Though she didn't know what the baby was yet she enjoyed teasing him some with it. "And your looks and my brain would make a good little starfleet officer."

"Pfft, he'll be a Jarhead like his old man. A daughter is nature's punishment for me being a man, knowing that my little girl will grow up and date a guy just like I was. I'm amazed Richard hasn't murdered anyone yet. I think he came close once..."

She chuckled as she thought back to Sarah. "His girls are going to be the death of him yet. I'm glad you aren't that trigger happy." Though even as she said that, she had that feeling that he could be when it came to his family.

"Well, I do tend to be somewhat protective of my loved ones. I'd hate to be the guy who messes with my family. Mind you, I would think they'd have to deal with Richard as well. He's somewhat protective of you, and that man has a predisposition for running around attacking people with a 19th Century cavalry sword. How he passed a psych eval, puzzles me."

"I've often wondered that one myself, he does seem to have a way that makes people question his ways. Yet... he's still where he is and is able to get people to do what he wants them to. So he's likely managed to wrap the Counselors around his fingers also." Kass said with a slight shrug as she relaxed more and more while talking to Patrick. Even with the distance between them, he had a way of calming her.

"Perhaps Richard is an evil genius, and we've just not seen it?" Patrick asked, smirking.

"Evil yes... genius... well...." Kassi smiled. "I think the jury is still out on that one."

"Well, he can't be that smart. He let you go, after all. Not that I'm not grateful for that lapse in judgement." He smiled at his wife. "I hate to cut this short, my love, but I have to head out."

A soft sigh slipped from her hearing he had to go but she was grateful for even this chance to talk to him. "Alright and remember, you stay safe and get this mess over with soon so you can get back to me. I love you Patrick."

"Love you too Kassandra. Don't blow up the colony whilst I'm not there. Remember, don't push the red button." He smirked.

She laughed with a little shake of her head. "Don't worry I won't. Make sure to give Richard a hard time for me." Kassi added, not really wanting to end the conversation, even though she knew she needed to. "Talk to you soon my love."

"Bye." He said, and closed the channel.

As the channel closed Kassi leaned back in her chair as she looked at the Starfleet logo that appeared upon the screen before her. It was going to be a hard time for her now.... not knowing and only being able to take one day at a time and hoping. Though she was strong enough to know she could handle the wait... that he would be back with her soon enough.

After letting her Aid know it was safe to interrupt her, she went back to her own work and reports.
