Mission: Reconciliation & Reconstruction [Fleet Plot]

John walked briskly through the halls. Commander Scott Hanna, a rather big man followed closely behind him. Behind him the rest of his modest staff followed closely. They were on a rather tight schedule today so necessity dictated some work on the fly.

Lieutenant Mark Calloway looked at his PADD in disbelief. "Sir, Lietenant Commander Armany from Starfleet Engineering has requested she push up your meeting to 1300 and Mrs. Brown has requested a call from you at your earliest convenience."

John sighed slightly. "Lieutenant, can you push up my 12:30 lunch and please inform my wife that I will call her during my lunch? I know what she wants already."

Petty Officer Second Class Jennifer Jenkins, a recent addition to his staff and who'd been following quietly until now spoke up. "Pardon the interruption sirs, but how do you know what Mrs. Brown wants?"

Scott Hanna chuckled, his large frame heaving slightly with amusement. "Petty Officer, when you're married to a Starfleet officer you almost always come second to the job. Mrs. Brown hasn't seen the Admiral in about three weeks now and I'm sure she'd appreciate to see her husband again."

Jenkins looked puzzled for a second. "Should I send for her, sir?"

John stopped and turned to the young woman. "This is Starfleet and as much as I'd love to have my wife here right now. Things are far to complicated for civilians to be around right now." He returned to his brisk walk, turning right down a corridor. "Clear my schedule after Thursday for four days. Mrs. Brown and I will go to our summer home to relax a little."

As they approached Admiral Hark's office Jenkins broke off to go make arrangements. The three officers entered the small waiting area together. Lietenant Calloway approached the clerk. "Admiral Brown to see Admiral Hark."

The young woman at the desk simply smiled and nodded as the group approached, the stack of padds on her desk was slid to one side, "He's been expecting you, sir, please go right in." was the response that she had stated multiple times every day since she took the position.

Brown motioned for Armany to stay put in the outer office area while Commander Hanna followed him in.

When the doors of the office opened, Xander found himself facing down another Admiral of the fleet, one of many now back in service of Starfleet after the losses that had been suffered at the hands of Federation First. The Commander in Chief was tired, he'd aged since he first left Starfleet to spend time in the Klingon Empire, that experience had left him weathered and forever tagged as a savage and then the events of the Civil War had just drained him, luckily things were a little simpler now and he had managed to find time to relax.

"Admiral," John nodded. "Commander Scott Hanna, my aide," he said motioning to the Commander. "I've known the Commander a long time. I wanted to meet with you in person since we hadn't really had the chance to get acquainted yet. Our schedules don't always allow us be in the same place at the same time. I'm looking forward to this though. I've heard things about you Admiral."

"It's good to finally meet you, Admiral," Xander replied with a slight nod as he stood from behind the desk and gestured towards the chairs before him, "Commander." he added with a similar bow, "Please, take a seat, can I offer you anything to drink?"

John smiled. "If you don't mind. I'm about due for a cup of coffee, black please." John collected his thoughts for a moment and proceeded carefully. "I was mildly surprised by my appointment." He paused again, "I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I'm grateful for the opportunity but pleasantly surprised it didn't go to someone who has fewer grey hairs."

"Unfortunately, Admiral." Hark began as he gave the gesture to his aide to fetch the coffee, "It would seem that we lost a few too many in the civil war, so we've been forced to look to our past to secure the future."

Brown nodded in solemn agreement. "Indeed Admiral." He took a mug of hot coffee from Hark's aide and sipped it gently. "So over the last couple days I put together some thoughts and ideas. Nothing major just some things I think we should look at like improving some inefficiencies and clarifying ambiguous policies."

Commander Hanna took a step forward and handed Hark a PADD. Brown continued. "Perhaps its also wise if we start creating stronger sectioning within Starfleet making certain elements more autonomous with less reliance on outside support allowing us more effectively manage should another civil war erupt. It might also be worth while creating more fall back positions here in the Alpha Quadrant and creating a few more strong points in the Delta and Beta Quadrants. If something were to happen in the Alpha Quadrant it would be nice to be able to transition command influence to another location without a lot of planning."

"Unfortunately Commander, we have to abide by the councils decision to maintain civilian oversight of Starfleet, that includes the sectioning and autonomous natures that would serve us well." Hark replied with a slight frown as he ran his hand over his head and smoothed his hair back, "Starfleet is not fully trusted by the council, despite everything that has happened, they seem to think they still need to watch over us."

John nodded his agreement. "Understood sir."

"I do however, agree that we need to create additional fall back positions for our command structure, if nothing else, the civil war proved how easy it would be for one group to strike and take control over the entirity of the Federation." the greying Admiral replied as he tapped at the console built into his desk and bought up a few reports, "Do you have any suggestions?"

Hanna produced an additional PADD. "This is a list of systems we believe are vital."

"This is just a preliminary list Admiral," John added. "We're still working on the list and I believe we can solidify the list in a couple weeks for your review."

"Very well, I hope to see it soon, you are dismissed for now, Admiral." Xander replied with a slight smile.
