== Communications Station – Epsilon-12 ==

“Akina, the Corsair just engaged the Agincourt!” Akina turned from the computer and looked up at the overhead monitors.

“So it’s started. Ramius always rushes in where angels fear to tread. It’s his nature I suppose. Any word from the Corsair?”

“None yet sir.”

“Well I don’t see how he plans to mount a rescue engaged in a one-sided battle, but he wouldn’t have started this if he didn’t have something in mind.”

“The Corsair is more maneuverable the Agincourt, but it can’t match her firepower. She’s taking a pounding.”

“Damn that man”, Kusinagi shouted having reappeared with his two engineers flanking him. The chief engineer stared up at the displays showing the unfolding battle outside of the station. “Is there anyone in this universe that can understand what goes on inside that head of his? I’m not sure he even knows at times.”

“Chief, where the hell have you been”, Akina asked. “Why didn’t you answer me on the comms?”

“I’ve been busy. Someone has to save our bacon…AGAIN!” A flash of crimson lit up the faces of the gathered crew as several phaser beams exploded upon the shields of the Corsair on the monitors above them.

“What? What can we do? We’re locked in a metal sphere in the heart of a giant rock.”

“It’s a metal sphere that contains some of the most sophisticated equipment in the Starfleet inventory captain. I think it’s about time we put some of it to use.”

“Brighton, fire up the generators. Let’s level the playing field.”

“Chief, fill me in! What is going on”, Akina asked as the chief took a seat at one of the control consoles.

Kusinagi brought up a schematic of the station's massive transceiver array. “We’re surrounded by a hundred subspace transceivers grouped into various arrays. I’ll explain it in easy terms so you even you military grunts should be able to grasp it.

Look here. Each one of these arrays can receive subspace transmissions on a massive scale, but they can also transmit on the same scales. This is a communications hub after all. I reconfigured all the arrays to act as transmitters. If we align them to focus on the Agincourt we can bombard her with massive quantities of subspace emissions.”

“I’ve lost you chief”, Akina stated. “How are communications arrays going to impact this situation on a tactical basis? If we jam their communications what does that matter?”

“You grunts have no imagination! We aren’t after their communications! A hyper-concentration of subspace emissions at a single point will disrupt their sensors which operate on similar principles. Jam their sensors and they will have to fire manually without the use of their targeting computers.”

“Without their computers the Corsair might have the upper hand!”

“There’s no might about it. Plus that much power in such a confined area might even disrupt their shields, their warp core, hell it might rip a hole in the space time continuum. I sort of slept through sub-space mechanics at the Academy so this should be interesting.”

“You slept through…nevermind...what are we waiting for? Fire up the system now!”

“Activating transceiver arrays. Brighton keep an eye on the power levels. If this works, we’re going to have to get out quick and hope the Corsair can get us out of here. If she doesn’t have the transporters repaired yet this tiny flash of brilliance might just be for nothing.”

“Flash or no flash I’ll take it. It beats sitting in here waiting for them to cut through the doors”, Akina stated.

“Standby. Array alignment in progress. Five seconds…four…three…two…one. Initiating subspace convergence field!”

== Meanwhile – Bridge, USS Agincourt ==

“Captain”, the tactical officer shouted from his post.

“We’ve, we’ve just lost targeting sensors.”

“What”, Vertima bellowed standing up. “Report!”

“Main sensor array is offline as well sir. We’re blind!”

“What? How?”

“Sensors are being disrupted by a powerful subspace field. I can’t be certain but a field of that strength must be coming from the communications station. They may be using the station’s transmission power against us!”

“Switch to manual targeting now! All stations switch to visual scanning! Damn it”, Vertima shouted. “We had them on the run! A few more hits and I would have had them!”

“Sir they’re too fast…without the computers…”

“Shut up and do your job”, Vertima shouted. “Quit sniveling like a raw cadet and destroy that starship now!”

== Bridge, USS Corsair ==

“Captain, a highly localized subspace field has formed around the Agincourt and appears to be tracking with her sir”, Lt. Redstone shouted from the tactical station. “She appears to be firing blindly at us sir. I’d venture they have been forced to switch to manual targeting and that their gunner is not accustomed to combat without computer fire control. That much subspace power must be causing intense sensor distortions.”

“Check, Captain Vertima”, Ramius muttered under his breath with a grin. ‘Well done chief. Well done’, he silently mused. “Change course! Helm, plot us a course away from the Agincourt which takes us within transporter range of the station and the extraction point.

Bridge to Engineering. Please tell me the transporters are operational?”

“Engineering to Bridge. Transporter room one is online at the moment, but its touch and go. If we’re going to get them off we have to do it soon!”

“Understood. Bridge out. Helm, flank speed. We have to get to….”

“Captain! The Agincourt has changed tactics! They are no longer firing at us! They’ve begun firing at the station’s transceiver arrays! They are destroying them one at a time! If they manage to hit enough of them we’ll lose our advantage!”

“What’s the position of the Agincourt now”, Ramius asked.

“She is ignoring us. They have turned to fire on the station and have presented their beam to us. It would seem they don’t believe us to pose a substantial threat”, Redstone stated.

“No threat? Well let us show their captain just how mistaken he is. Evacuate decks 2-5! Redstone! Charge the Phaser Cannons!”

“Ramius”, Admiral Valtren stated leaning over the railing behind the captain. “Those cannons are experimental. They were never successful in rigorous trials. Starfleet abandoned the technology due to the high danger of overload and inadequate heat dissipation systems. Using them now is reckless.”

“We’ve used them before”, Ramius quickly stated. “The chief has made a few of his own personal modifications. Besides we don’t have any other options. It’s now or never. If we don’t disable the Agincourt now, we never will!”

“I want damage and fire control parties standing by. Initiate radiation protocols. Have sickbay ready to treat radiation exposure.”

“Ramius…”

The captain turned to look at Director Ascari who had let the captain’s name slip. “Good luck captain”, was the only other words the director uttered turning his attention back to the viewing screen.

“Helm new course. Head for the Agincourt! Tactical, cannon status?”

“Cannons charging. One minute remaining.”

“Overlay cannon status on main viewer. Target the Agincourt’s starboard warp nacelle. Load all forward torpedo launchers with quantum torpedoes. All stations, prepare to attack!”
