Mission: Insurrection [Fleet Plot]

Commander Malcolm DeMeritt was in his office when Fleet Admiral Kerry Malone appeared on his screen and gave orders of the fall of Starfleet Command. After the message cut out his terminal started to hiss and briefly burst into flames before smoldering out. Mal immediately stood up after having been in a stunned silence from the message and dashed out of his office and into the Main Operations Center of Starfleet Science. The room was full of terminal that had fizzed out and burnt up.

Captain Alica Burch, Director of Starfleet Science then exited her office quickly and joined the rest of the confused science staff in the room. "Clearly this is some hoax," said Captain Burch in a harsh tone. "Command can't have fallen!"

"Director? I am pretty sure we should make preparations for evacuation of our staff, if it is true we should leave this building until more information is brought to light," Mal said walking over to Burch who was standing crossed armed.

"This is some petty joke by some prankster! Starfleet can't fail its-" Burch stopped talking as they heard phaser fire coming from outside the door and down the corridor. Alicia instantly moved to one of the staffers desk and started opening drawers.

"What are you looking for ma'am?" asked a very confused Lt whose desk was getting rummaged through. Mal stayed close and looked on confused as well.

"Paper, and something to write with. I assume all of the PaDDs are dead. The ones on my desk died after Malone's transmission. Ah!" she exclaimed as she found what she was looking for. She feverishly started writing a list of instructions as the sound of phaser shots got closer.

"What are you writing ma'am?" asked Mal.

"Instructions. It's what we need to do to get out of here. This is the transponder signal for a ship, the Captain is a good friend of mine. She will help us. We need to get out of San Francisco until we can figure out what to do. If it is all true we need to get out of here." She continued to write quickly and Mal watched as she did trying to remember as much as he could, just in case.

"Alright DeMeritt, I know all of this, but here is a second set of instructions in case we get separated. We need to get these people out of here and to safety," she handed Mal the instructions and he looked it over just as the doors to the Operations Center opened revealing 6 heavily armed blue clad men.

"Captain Alicia Burch, Director of Starfleet Science, under orders of the Council of the United Federation of Planets, you are hereby under arrest for the crime of state treason, you are hereby bound by law," said the squads lead.

"There clearly is some misunderstanding-" started Burch.

"No misunderstanding ma'am, you are under arrest and coming with us," said the leader.

"And if I refuse?"

"I am allowed to use what ever force necessary to take you into custody," replied the leader as one of his juniors stepped forward and tried to grab Alicia's hands to place them in shackles. Alicia tried to refuse and pull away. Before another syllable could be uttered the leader leveled his rifle and blasted Alicia in the chest, killing her before she could even hit the ground. All of the onlookers, including Mal, were speechless. "I said 'what ever force necessary'," said the leader aloud to the room of officers.

"Who here is Commander Malcolm DeMeritt, Deputy Director of this Department?" asked the officer to the leaders right.

"Me," said Mal still horror struck by what he had just saw.

"You are hereby promoted to the position of Director of Starfleet Science, effective immediately. You and your staff stay here, you will be receiving instructions as soon as possible. Stay indoors and stay out of the way of the Security Forces." And with that the security team exited the office. Everyone stood there in silence for a few moments as the sound of phaser fire continued and moved farther down the hall away from their office.

Finally after as the sound faded into the distance Mal looked down at Alicia's lifeless body. He bend down and tried to pick her up as the Lt whose desk had been gone through helped Mal move her into the Director's office and placed her on the couch, putting a spare sheet over the body. The Lt left leaving just Mal in the Director's office, technically his office now.

He stood there a moment looking at the sheet before moving to sit at the desk, taking out the list of instructions and started planning how he was going to get his staff out of San Francisco and off of Earth.
