Mission:
Reconciliation & Reconstruction [Fleet Plot]
Location: Earth
[Earth]
The metallic gray shuttle dipped into the atmosphere where the majestic turquoise of the Pacific Ocean was obscured by tufts of cotton like clouding. A golden dome of heat began to envelope the craft’s nose momentarily bathing the craft’s cockpit orange. A blue finger punched at the control console causing the shuttle to dive further. As the shuttle rapidly descended the dome of fire gave way to a sheet of vapor which whisked past the shuttle’s windows like passing smoke blanketing the cockpit in darkness. Then with a harsh suddenness the shuttle broke through the clouds and bright light from the morning visage of Sol cresting above the wave-whipped ocean horizon flooded into the cockpit. Another press of the controls caused the craft to level off on its approach as the waves below glinted like a twirling diamond. Ahead of them was the cityscape of San Francisco offset by red figure of the golden gate bridge.
A snort echoed through the cockpit as the stout Tellarite manning the copilot’s seat leaned back into his chair “you could have just beamed down like normal people.”
“Last time I checked Bargash I don’t think anyone forced you to accompany me.” The Andorian slid her slender blue fingers across the controls bringing the shuttle just below the bridge “so why complain?” She paused for a brief second before adding “ah, I forgot, you pride yourself in your ability to nag at me.”
“Someone has to!” Bargash wiggled his snout and grinned “in any case I had to make sure you didn’t get into an accident. I can only imagine the headache you would have caused me if you died flying down. No doubt they would wonder why this marvelous attaché of yours let you kill yourself when you could have safely beamed down. Not good for one’s career I would imagine.”
“Why do I feel like you would have fared just fine? In any case my flying record is impeccable.”
“Impeccable? Isn’t your pilot’s license on Vulcan suspen-”
The shuttle suddenly lurched towards the water causing the Tellarite to gulp down a bubble of air from surprise. A thin mist of ocean water soaked the windows as the nacelles skimmed against the edge of the surf. “I find piloting relaxing- I can’t say the same for Vulcans.” The Andorian threw a glare towards the Tellarite who simply shrugged surrendering the argument to her. Pulling away from the golden gate bridge the shuttle glided past several of the city’s skyward towers before arcing towards one of the primary landing pads nestled adjacent to the shoreline.
“We’ve been cleared to land.” Bargash noted out loud as the internal rumblings of mechanisms momentarily echoed through the cockpit signaling the lowering of landing struts.
The shuttle jostled slightly as it met Earth and a cool salty breeze poured in through the opening rear hatch. Standing up the Andorian grabbed her duffel bag and made a quick exit followed somewhat sluggishly by the Tellarite who was cursing in his native language. As her flesh met the warmth of the morning sunlight her eyes caught sight of another Andorian woman standing at the edge of the shuttle platform. Along with the visitor was a small posse of blue-folk whose crème colored robes fluttered gently against the breeze. When the group noticed her leaving the shuttle they made their way towards her led by the woman.
“Admiral Nanthrissa zh’Raazh welcome to Earth.”
“Yes, quite a welcome to be greeted by the Councillor. I hope you are well Iyaru?”
“Better now that you have arrived Nan. I hope your trip was good?”
“Good enough to get me here- all that matters.” Nan shrugged finding the banter somewhat pointless “but enough small-talk since for some reason I don’t think the esteemed Councillor would have made her way out here so early to simply bid me hello.”
“No…” The words left Iyaru’s lips as a half-whisper which was almost lost in the ocean sound. She turned to one of her escorts and spoke to them quietly. Soon the group huddled for a short moment before dispersing leaving only the three of them. She glanced at the Tellarite “perhaps you could dismiss your…”
“No, it’s fine. He can listen in if he wishes. It will prevent him from going through my files later to find out what we discussed.” Nan started for one of the buildings brandishing a Starfleet delta symbol as she spoke. Iyaru frowned but followed moving in stride next to her while the Tellarite followed the pair. “So why are you here Councillor Aniri? Certainly you have better things to do then play door-greeter.”
“If it were only so simple.” Iyaru huffed barely hiding her aggravation “it is good to see you are still as candid and acerbic as I remembered. Do you know why the Council recommended you for the Chief of Staff post?”
“No, nor do I feel I should care. I assume you are going to inform me about why I need to however.” Nan stopped suddenly causing Iyaru to overshoot her briefly and have to turnaround. Bargash who had been playing with a PADD while pretending to ignore the conversation was forced to awkwardly sidestep the Admiral and Councillor by tight roping his way into one of the hedges sending a flurry of broken twigs and leaves onto the sidewalk. “You should be more careful Bargash.” Nan said while looking at Iyaru.
The Tellarite cursed, stood, and dusted the leafy debris off his uniform “I swear you are going to be the death of me Admiral!”
Iyaru glanced momentarily at the Tellarite before turning her attention back to the Admiral “the Council respects your record plus many feel you have an almost Vulcan-like disposition a quality-”
“I don’t think calling the Admiral Vulcan-like is much of a compliment Councillor.” Bargash snorted as he tried to restrain a chuckle while plucking the last few leaves out of his uniform’s collar.
“No, I would think not.” Nan added to the Tellarite’s comment with an agreeing head bob.
Gritting her teeth the Councillor was obviously flustered by the pair but Iyaru closed her eyes and simply shook her head regaining her composure. “The Council appreciates your composure and rationality when it comes to your command approach. We hope you will be the tether that keeps Admiral Hark in line.”
“Well, there it is. So in essence the Council recommended me to play baby-sitter to Admiral Hark? Unfortunately it seems that I am now even less inclined to care then I was originally. Councillor I appreciate you making your way here to greet me so early on this beautiful morning. However I and my attaché have a lot of to do and very little time to allow ourselves to be drawn into the Council’s political machinations. So if you will excuse me I will be on my way. If you have anything further you can speak to Commander Bargash.” She waved a finger at the Tellarite before continuing on her way towards the building.
Bargash snorted and looked at Iyaru “good morning Madame Councillor- unfortunately it seems the Admiral’s itinerary is completely booked for the rest of the day…”
