Mission: Non-Plot Log

She was relaxed, for the most part, and that was a good thing for her. But being here... for some reason was also a bit unsettling. Why, she didn't know. Perhaps it was because of the past, and the fact that he was in a relationship. Or was it because he was so close to Patrick and she still struggled with the pain from that. What ever it was seemed to be eating her more and more each day she was there.

Bundled up, a steaming glass of hot chocolate within her hand, as she looked longingly over the grounds.

The rain was hammering against the windows as the wind whipped it against the house. It was a truly foul day, but Richard was still up and dressed at 0700, and had enjoyed his breakfast of bacon, sausage, egg and toast. He wandered into the library and spotted Kassi huddled up under a throw blanket, looking out of one of the windows. The fireplace behind her had not been lit, which caused Richard a frown. He rang the bell, and instructed the butler to have the fires lit. He didn't want his girls getting cold.

"Not a day for a walk, I'm afraid." Sharpe said, finally acknowledging Kassi.

She glanced over to Richard and smiled warmly. "Yes, I noticed that when I went to try and head out for one earlier." She said softly before looking back out the window again and took a drink. "I'm going to be heading out... tomorrow. Weather permitting that is."

"Oh, the weather will only be like this for another eight hours." Sharpe explained. "The weather control people are very precise, but its because its the natural climate, so it allows the plants and animals some regularity." He looked at her. "You're moving on so soon?"

"For now, you know.... if Amelia finds out I was on Earth and didn't come see her, she'd have a fit. And I suppose I should stop and check on my folks." Her thoughts went to her folks, she'd not talked to them in a while and still wasn't so sure how that would go over after the last time she'd talked to her mother. "If don't mind, I may drop back by and take off from here with you? Unless you plan on joining Towers and heading up early."

"Oh heavens no. If Starfleet intend on retaining me as a General, I'm bloody well going to act like it, and grace Towers with my presence when I'm good and ready." Sharpe smirked. "Besides, I wouldn't dream of spending anymore time away from my girls than I already have to. I think you'll find I'll be here until the moment the Ticonderoga breaks orbit."

"See.. Another reason for me to get out of here for a bit. You need time with your girls. Without Towers or I hanging around. And who knows, maybe your woman friend will pop in and you could get lucky." There was a subtle change of tone as she said that last part, though she'd heard it, she hoped he hadn't and lifted her mug for another drink.

He had, but he wondered at it. "No, I doubt that Dare will be 'popping in'." Sharpe replied, trying to keep the edge out of his voice. "I've spoken to Patrick, told him you're here. He's on Earth at the moment, with plans to visit to see his nieces. Will you be around long enough to say hello? Or will you two simply be passing ships in the night from now on?" If she was going to play dirty, so was he.

She didn't say anything for a moment, though her grip tightened on that mug some. Her gaze lowered to the dark liquid that moved within the mug as she tried to focus on that and not the rush of emotions that seemed to rush though her. "When is he due to be here?" She asked finally... torn with the want to see him, and the scared part of her who thought it might be better to run again.

Richard sighed. As much as he wanted to be horrible to Kassi, he just couldn't be cruel. "Whenever I tell him to. I told him I'd have to ask you if you want to see him. He says he'll understand if you're not ready yet. He's over in Ireland, visiting some family, so he could beam over at any time. I leave the decision to you."

So now it came down to the big question... was she still chicken, or could, as Mel would say, put her big girl panties on and face Patrick. Well, what doesn't kill her only makes her stronger... gah, she still wasn't so sure about that old saying. "Invite him, I'll stick around long enough to talk to him." Kassi said finally as she peeked over to Richard. "I suppose it's time I try and stop being such a chicken and face some of my... face things."

"I think that is true of the both of you, Kassandra." Sharpe replied, consenting for the first time that Patrick had done wrong as well, at least as far as Kassi was concerned - this was the first time. "I will invite him over for lunch."

She caught what he said and took a slow deep breath with a subtle nod. She'd held the blame all to herself for all this time, she was surprised to hear Richard admit that. "Sounds good." Kassi said softly as she felt her nerves start up and pondered hunting down his stash of Scotch.

"If you're looking for the booze, you may rest assured that I've had it locked away." He replied, reading her thoughts perhaps correctly. "You and the proper stuff don't mix, and I wanted to... avoid... any issues."

Was that a grunt that he heard from her? Probably. "It's your fault I got into that stuff." She muttered, a slight flushness catching her at the fact that he'd managed to pick up on her thoughts there. "I'm telling you, I'm going to talk to Malone about you being my counselor if something happens with Andrus."

"Yeah... because I'm sooo qualified." Sharpe muttered, leaving the room.
