Mission: Non-Plot Log
Her bag still dropped in the corner of the room that Richard had offered to her, Kassi stood there a moment as she pondered a short nap or a walk after her earlier tour of the grounds. Physically her body was ready for a nap, but her mind was going to refuse that one. It was still early enough that she probably needed to stay awake anyways and see some sights, after all she wasn't yet for sure how long she was planning on staying.
A peek outside her door a moment had her smiling, for once there was no one there waiting and she relaxed a little before stepping on out and heading down the hall to start exploring. Pausing at times to look over the decorations, paintings and pictures that adorned the walls, she let herself get lost in the beauty of it all as her mind drifted away from the fact that there were others in the house.
In one of the rooms down the hall, Towers was doing his packing... which didn't take long at all. The MEU might have a week to relax, but Towers would be doing nothing of the sort with that time. Looking around the room he hoisted the small duffle onto his shoulder and started to walk out.
Having pulled herself from her thoughts, she'd started moving on a little more. Her curiosity was getting to her and she was starting to ponder opening some of these clothes doors. Just to see the beauty of some of the other rooms. As she reached for the handle of one door she jumped as it opened and she found herself near having a collision with... Towers. A soft groan and slight blush as she scrambled back some. "Good to see you again."
"Glad to see you kept out of trouble, Admiral." Towers replied in greeting.
"I kind of had to." She said with a slight shrug. "Admiral Malone basically made that clear. Thankfully Colonel Fischer was very patient with me. You should take some lessons." She teased him a little, the mood for now seeming light enough to do that.
"Considering how many times I've had to extract you from troublesome situations, I think I've earned some impatience on my part. You're lucky it isn't Colson that was coming after you." Towers said.
"He can't be anywhere the pain you can be." She said smiling some. "I heard we all get to work together yet again. And no one said I had to stay out of trouble this time." Man, if her mood swings didn't stop, she was going to drive her own self crazier.... or had Richard spiked her tea?
"Keeping the peace in the Gamma Quadrant is going to be difficult enough without chasing a pain in the ass Admiral around." Towers pointed out.
"Given my position out there, I doubt I'd be getting into much trouble. So don't worry." Hmm, was that another reason Malone had given her that one? Brows furrowed a moment in thought before shaking her head. "Ohh... and thanks." Kassi said slightly softer and a bit more serious.
"For?" Towers asked.
"For getting me out of those troublesome situations." And not shooting me when I drive you nutty... Though she left that part to herself. "And yes I know... you were just doing your job, but pretty sure that if you didn't want to do it... you wouldn't had. Just as I know there is that whole Marine concept of leaving no man behind. But I also know that I haven't always been the most gracious person when you've done it."
"Flag officers aren't supposed to be gracious. Having to be saved by jarheads is often bruising on the ego for an Admiral." Towers said.
"I'm not your typical flag officer though. I prefer to say thank you, and even sorry... when I make mistakes." Kassi said with a slightly sheepish look.
Towers just smiled slightly. He didn't really know how to respond to that. Very few of the times she had been thrown into the deep end had been her own fault, per se... But Towers had just been doing what he thought was right. His moral compass was part of the reason why he was so valuable to Sharpe... though it was also what drove the old General absolutely bonkers. ..
She gave a little shrug after a moment and glanced to the bag. "I see you're getting ready to head out... Have enough of spending time with Sharpe?"
"I need to do something before we leave for the GQ. Another one of those no man left behind things." Towers said cryptically.
Kassi didn't ask, it wasn't her concern she had her own list of things that she needed to do, one that seemed to be changing every so often. After all, she still hadn't made it to the beach. "Stay safe then, after all... I'll need to to keep Sharpe in line."
"I have enough problems keeping my own boys and girls in line. You're the new Chief of Staff... tugging on Sharpe's leash is your job now. Good luck, Admiral." Towers said with another faint smile.
"Thanks, I'm going to need it." Stepping slightly to the side she smiled warmly to him. "I suppose I've delayed you long enough, I'll see you back out in the GQ."
"Thank you, Admiral." Towers said quietly. He sketched a quick, habitual salute as he walked past her, slinging the bag, rifle, and bat'leth back on his shoulders.
"We're off duty, you don't have to Salute me or use rank by the way." She called after him with a slight shake of her head and smile.
"You really don't know marines at all, do you? Even after all that time on the Vesuvius..." Towers replied as he disappeared out the door.
Kassi sighed softly as she watched him go. She'd learned how they could be. Didn't mean she had to like it though.
