Mission: Insurrection [Fleet Plot]
Location: Sigma Ceti System
Timeline: Following the events of "The Battle of Sigma Ceti (Part 2)"

= USS Jarrod =

Behind one of the moons of Sigma V, Rear Admiral Pegasus stood on the bridge of the USS Jarrod - the newest and most advanced battle-cruiser that Starfleet had designed. She'd been rescued from the Jupiter Yards two days after the purge, and since then, she'd been part of an outlying force of ships keeping the UFP contained within the core systems. Her battlegroup had been instrumental in keeping the tide turned, and now she waited for the moment where her force would rake the UFP fleet.

Utilizing the radiation belt of the gas giant Sigma V had been an enviable stroke of genius, and Jodie Pegasus was jealous that Malone had thought of it first. Not that she'd tell him that, but she had a force of twenty five ships, most light attack frigates - as that was her style of combat. She had three heavy ships - the Jarrod, the Twilight (Vesta) and the Dakota (Sovereign). The rest were made up of Akira's, Prometheus's, Insignia's, Defiants and Sabre's.

"Admiral, flash message from the Tico." Reported the Chief of Operations for the Jarrod. Unlike the Ticonderoga, the Jarrod didn't have dedicated fleet commander facilities, so the Admiral commanded from the bridge.

"Well, don't keep us in suspense, Mister Tyler." Pegasus smirked.

"The Admiral is warning us that the enemy is using subspace weapons, ma'am, and is pulling back his wing. He instructs wings four, five and six to engage on flank assault." Tyler reported.

"Well, that's us then." Captain DeMarco replied.

"Indeed." Pegasus smiled, finally glad to be in this thing. "Flash message all ships, inform them to proceed on assigned targets, and avoid forward firing weapons on the heavier ships."

= UFP Command ship "Nemesis" =

Targus was looking pretty pleased with himself, having scattered Malone's fleet. He was impressed with how well he'd managed to fool the well renowned Fleet Admiral, and became comfortable in his knowledge that a reputation didn't always mean much.

"Admiral, Starfleet ships are appearing from within the solar system." His ops officer reported.

"Malone back for round two?" He asked, smugly, expecting to see Malone's fleet having turned around and coming back at him.

"No sir, these are three new formations coming out of the radiation belts. We didn't see them before. Sixty-five ships coming at us from all directions." Ops replied.

"That's not possible!" Targus raged, his earlier smugness deflated. "You bastard Malone..."

= USS Jarrod =

The Jarrod and her escorts swooped down from high on top of the UFP fleet, taking advantage of the third dimension of height in this battle - raining torpedoes and heavy ordinance down on top of the ventral shielding of the enemy fleet.

At the same time, Dombarton's force was hammering the left flank again - this time very hard, and H'Toch's wing was raiding the right flank from beneath. The Klingons were masters of the raiding tactic, and the General's B'Rel's were in their element.

Enemy ships began exploding in various places, even the heavier cruisers - which had so far avoided the serious punishment of the first engagement were taking hits. An Excelsior on the port side of the command ship was hit hard by a volley of quantum torpedoes from the Jarrod, and the starboard nacelle on the offending ship exploded, causing the ship to list to starboard, away from the command ship. Flames were tearing down the hull as she took a pounding.

The Jarrod moved around on her axis, and began raking runs against the Nemesis, taking fire from the larger ship. However the Jarrod featured superior manoeuvrability for a ship of her size, and moved to fly around the aft of the Nemesis, and focused her fire on the Nemesis's engines and power systems. The side-mounted torpedo launchers fired a mean broadside against the enemy ship in a constant stream of projectile hell.

= Nemesis =

Aboard the Nemesis, all hell had broken out. The formation was virtually ignored, and left to fend for itself as the command ship was raked by fire from the USS Jarrod. Targus was screaming at his ships captain to return fire on the sleek cruiser.

No one was watching the forward section of the battlefield...

= USS Ticonderoga =

Malone's regrouped forces, having lost six of his larger ships, and three of his Galaxy's now didn't have warp cores, so had been forced to limp behind Sigma II's moon, now came on in force against the disorganised UFP fleet.

The Ticonderoga, the biggest ship in the fleet, ploughed straight into the melee` of the fight - torpedoes spread out and cannons and beams firing on the Nemesis. Working in liasion with the Jarrod, the Ticonderoga and the Jarrod hammered the command ship from both the bow and the stern.

= Nemesis =

"Admiral!" The ships captain exclaimed. "Mains are offline, we've lost weapons, engines and shields! Life support is failing, we need to abandon ship!"

"NO!" Targus roared, and moved down to helm. "I'll never surrender!"

= USS Jarrod =

"Admiral, the Nemesis is trying to move under manoeuvring thrusters to ram the Ticonderoga. She's refusing all hails for surrender from the flagship, ma'am." Tyler reported.

"Very well." Pegasus sighed. "End their misery. Target their warp core and fire."

The Jarrod swung around on its elegant axis, pivoted to bring her bow to face the Nemesis' stern, and unleashed a torrent of quantum torpedoes into the engineering hull of the ship. In a blinding explosion, the warp core exploded, causing the ship itself to explode in a blue explosion vortex.

By this point, the other ships of the UFP formation had either been destroyed, disabled or forced to surrender. By the end of the hour, no further resistance was given by the UFP force.

= USS Ticonderoga =

Malone reviewed the reports coming in from his wing commanders. The enemy had been utterly defeated, and those that had surrendered were having security teams secure the ships, and new crews put aboard to take them back to Qu'vat. Malone tasked a couple of ships to tow back his own damaged ships, and the captured ships to the Klingon yards.

"Well done, Admiral." Captain Gomez beamed at his fleet commander.

"We're not done yet, Andreas." Malone smiled. "Signal the fleet, set a course for Earth - maximum warp."

= End! =

OOC: USS Jarrod is the loving work of LtCmdr. Pete Birt, dedicated to Jazza. All credit goes to him, and I promised she'd be included in the fleet plot.
