Mission: Insurrection [Fleet Plot]
= Safe House =
Sharpe, Towers and their assault team arrived at the safe-house as planned. They'd been forced to delay their arrival, in case their infiltration had been detected by UFP, but it became evident after a while that either they hadn't been detected - or for reasons unknown, UFP wanted them there. The former would be good, the latter... not so much.
After they set themselves up, and settled down, checking the equipment that had been provided, sweeping for bugs or other surveillance equipment, they finally decided that they could move to the next phase.
Sharpe walked over to where Towers was sitting at a small card table, assembling some tricobalt explosives. "Any idea on how we can get ahold of Tyris?"
Towers shook his head. "Not without broadcasting the fact that we believe he's here to anybody listening. I suspect he'll find us first."
"Assuming he's still alive." Sharpe mused. "We've had no contact with him since we left Earth weeks ago."
"I didn't expect any. Even Nikkos would have a hard time getting a message out that far without compromising his cover." Towers pointed out.
"Even Malone's contacts haven't heard from him, or know anything about him. I suspect he's alive simply because the UFP haven't broadcast their victorious slaying of the traitor across the network." Sharpe said, watching Towers at work. "Don't you think Tricobalt explosives are a tad excessive?"
Towers raised an eyebrow at him, his expression broadcasting how intelligent of a question he thought that was. Shaking his head, he looked back down at what he was doing before he spoke.
"I'm making all different kinds of fireworks here, General. Tricobalts won't even make the biggest bang."
It was at that point that there was a commotion from the other end of the room, as a member of the team who had been tasked with security came back alert, and was informing one of the others of a man attempting to gain entry using a SFI code. Richard looked to Towers, and then moved his hand to the Glock semi-automatic pistol that was in a holster on his hip.
Towers held up a hand. "No SFI agent is that sloppy. That has to be Tyris... that was fast." He got up and headed out to receive their guest.
"You clearly don't know SFI as well as I do..." Sharpe growled, remembering with bitterness his dealings with the elusive and apparently faultless entity. Even so, he trudged after Towers towards the doorway, signaling to the team to have their weapons ready, just in case.
"I would disagree, but..." Towers put a hand on his own weapon as he opened the door a crack.
Nobody was there.
"Look." Sergeant Edmunds pointed.
A small laser dot was flickering on the ground in front of the doorway in a pattern that Towers recognized immediately. An old form of communication that Tyris had once taught him. Morse code.
"Recognize that, General?" Towers asked, pointing at the dot.
"Is that...?" Richard asked, looking. "Give the counter-reply, Colonel." As he recognized the signal.
"Counter-reply? We never set up a system for that. He's a kilometer south and doesn't want to compromise us." Towers said. The dot disappeared.
"Then how the heck are we supposed to communicate with him? Smoke signals?" Richard replied.
"I go out there and get him." Towers said, peering down each direction outside of the safehouse.
Richard looked at Towers for a moment. "No, what if you're recognized, there's bound to be street cameras. Send Edmunds."
Towers looked like he would argue, but gave Edmunds a nod. The Sergeant slipped out the door, leaving his distinctive sniper rifle behind.
"I sincerely hope this effort is worth it." Richard grumbled.
"What effort?" Towers retorted, watching as Edmunds slipped away quietly.
"All of it." He replied sullenly. "I vow to you now though, if they've hurt Sarah - nothing in this universe will stop me exacting a terrible vengeance."
"Tell it to the legions of prison guards you'll be wading through." Towers pointed out.
"I'm still worried about how this is going to go down. Aside from a few specific combat related incidents - I've never used projectile weapons against our own people." Sharpe said.
"What difference does it make? We're beyond using phasers on stun here. Ah here we go." Edmunds was making his way back to the safe house. He arrived a few seconds later, Tyris in tow.
"Nikkos, glad you're still alive." Sharpe said, as Tyris entered the building.
"Feeling is mutual, gentlemen. Though my cover was blown recently. UFP is now aware that I'm still on Earth, which makes my operations significantly more difficult." Nikkos said.
"Well, as you might have worked out, we're not exactly here to be sneaky." Sharpe said, indicating the raw firepower that was in evidence around the room. "You still hooked up to sources on the inside?"
"Only a few. Most of my connections have been severed, either because they are too scared to oppose the government, or they have been murdered, which is this new government's favorite method for quelling any opposition. Most of my time has been spent following politicians and military leaders, eavesdropping and trying to put pieces together." Nikkos said.
"Any news about my daughter Sarah?" Richard asked, somewhat optimistically. "They arrested her off a starship in the Gamma Quadrant, killed the entire crew but took her."
"Directly? No. But they are expecting you, General. It's no secret that she's being held and they openly speak about how eager they are to capture the both of you." Nikkos gave Towers a glance.
"Even if I could simply cut you a code to get in, gentlemen, it wouldn't help. You're both the most recognizable men in the quadrant right now and it doesn't matter what kind of forged ID you have. You're going to get recognized, especially when everyone at that prison is expecting you to show up sooner or later." He finished.
"I'm counting on it." Sharpe smiled, in a sort of thoughtful yet near manic sort of way. Beyond that, he gave no hint to his intentions.
Nikkos gave Towers another glance. The marine Colonel shrugged.
"Alright. What do you need from me, specifically, General?" Nikkos asked.
"Any information you can give us about Starfleet Campus, specifically the holding area and the communications center." Sharpe said.
Nikkos held out a PADD. "I did some recon work as soon as I heard she'd been captured. Once my cover was blown they clamped down so things may be a bit tighter."
Richard accepted the PADD. "Still looks like they're employing standard Starfleet Security protocols when it comes to their clamp-down however. 90% of this will be in the book, and since they seem to have a lack of marines, their thugs in suits are the police force. No where near as well trained as even Starfleet security people, let alone our people."
Richard looked at Towers. "Even so, this is going to be a bitch. Standard protocol calls for a forcefield dome around the campus during heightened alert, which is generated internally, not from the grid. They'll also have a scattering field, and energy weapon neutralizers. That last part won't be an issue for us. They'll also have runabout overflights of the surrounding areas."
Towers smiled thinly. "Wouldn't be any fun if it was easy."
Nikkos frowned. "Tell me you two have a plan. I'm not a fan of aiding and abetting suicide missions."
"There's a plan, Nikkos." Richard said, "But its both reckless and foolhardy, and not for the faint of heart."
"I would expect no less from either of you." Nikkos said.
"Well, it didn't help that Malone tagged on an objective to take out the communications center as well as attack the prison." Sharpe pointed out. "In any case, this is going to be extremely hard to pull off successfully."
"How do you plan to achieve both objectives?" Nikkos wondered.
"I'm splitting my team in half, one team to take out the comm center, the other the holding area. I'm going to use the attack on the comm center as a distraction to the holding area - just enough to catch them off balance." Sharpe explained.
"Which is why Explosion Boy there has all manner of toys on the table?" Nikkos gestured to what Towers was working on.
"Pretty much." Sharpe replied.
"Alright. I need to move along, General. I seem to have picked up a rather formidable tail and I'd rather not risk compromising this place before you're ready to move." Nikkos said.
"Very well, try to stay in contact if you can." Sharpe said.
"Will do." Nikkos said. With a nod, he slipped out the door and was gone.
Sharpe looked to Towers. "Alright, you've got team two, and you're taking on the comm center." Sharpe said to his long-time subordinate. "Think you can handle that?"
"I have bombs. I can handle anything." Towers responded. It was the kind of answer that would incite anxiety in many a commanding officer.
Just not this one. "Just don't blow yourself up. As much as it pains me to say it, you're rather useful from time to time, and I would... regret your demise... for a few minutes at least."
"Your concern for my health is so very touching. Sir." Towers said with a slight smirk as he sat back down at the table to finish what he was doing.
"I have to be careful, else you might think I liked you, and we couldn't have that now, could we?" Sharpe said, as he wandered off to go prepare an assault rifle.
Towers snorted.
