Mission:
Insurrection [Fleet Plot]
Location: En-Route to Klingon Space
Timeline: Following: "The Day After..."
Following the hair-raising escape from Earth, the Ticonderoga and her escorts were heading at best possible speed away from Earth - but not to any fixed destination at this stage. It had been a very tight thing, but they were now free and clear. All they had to do now was decide where they were going. After some considerable thought, Malone gave orders to his little 'squadron' of ships to head for the Klingon Empire. He'd seen their announcement, and decided that his enemies would assume he'd go there, and it was strategically at least - the best place to regroup. He'd meet up with Hark and come up with a counter-strategy.
"Admiral, we're receiving a hail from the Pegasus, Captain Innovindil would like a word." Came the voice of his aide, one of the few to make it off of Earth.
"Patch it through here." He said from his office just off the CiC - which was located one deck below the main bridge. "Malone here."
Innovindil had barely had time to sit down behind the desk in her Ready Room before the desktop monitor came to life with the image of Admiral Malone. She spared a brief moment to glare at the screen before she reached out and tapped the controls to open the channel.
"Admiral," she said in a very tight voice, her tone almost flat. "May I ask what just happened?"
"Pretty much what I said in my message, Captain." Malone said, calmly.
"They stormed Starfleet Command with UFP Security heavies, intent on arresting or executing people who were a threat. I however, was ready for them, and got out as many as I could. I regret I couldn't get more out." He sighed.
Innovindil nodded and forced herself to remain as calm as she could.
Her temper and hard-headedness doubled with her determination and the fact that she hated to back down from a challenge were almost a legion within some circles of Starfleet. She had learned to put her emotions in check, but it didn't mean she wasn't about to forget about the possibility of striking back.
"What do you intend to do?" she asked, fighting hard to keep her voice from turning into a growl.
"For now, regroup, and find out how many of us are left. After that, formulate a strategy for getting our government back." Malone said, simply.
Innovindil nodded and forced herself to sit back in her chair and let her temper cool. It took nearly a full minute before she could think without resorting to her instinctive thinking.
"Admiral, the Pegasus is at your disposal," she said. "I know our tactical capabilities are limited and we don't have a full crew, but if there's anything we can do to help all you have to do is ask."
"Thank you, Captain." Kerry said. "We're heading for Klingon space, where we'll regroup with the others, and decide on our next move. I might try to funnel surplus crew from some of the other ships to yours if you're too light on crew. We'll also end up with refugees and displaced Starfleet Officers fleeing persecution. Certainly have enough staff officers who can be rebilleted."
"We can use anyone you can spare," Innovindil said with a nod. "The Pegasus had a light crew aboard and we had another week for assigned personnel to arrive. My Executive Officer and I will go over what crew we have on board and I can draw up a list of what we'll need to fill out our compliment."
"I'll see what I can salvage from what we have when we get where we're going." Malone said. "I hope you appreciate that your ship isn't really set up for combat, so I won't be tasking you with any combat orientated missions."
"The Pegasus can handle any mission you give us, Admiral," Innovindil said, bristling slightly. She realized what she had done and shook her head. She had never understood it, but all Captains were defensive about their ships, and she was no exception.
"Forgive me, Admiral," she said.
"I admire your pride, Captain. Even if it is a little misplaced in this instance." Malone said. "I'm not saying I won't use you, or that you won't get into a fight or two, but how I use you will reflect what I know of your classes abilities."
"You may be surprised by what the Pegasus can do, Admiral," Innovindil said. "May I remind you of the Voyager, or the Equinox?"
"All the same, I have ships designed for sustained combat. Yours...
wasn't." Malone said, firmly. "In fact, I already have something for you to do. Once we've sorted out your crew situation, I'm going to send you out to rally support for our cause in the Federation. Get as many member worlds on our side as you can. Try and recruit Starfleet ships, and get us resources."
"You want me to be in charge of recruiting support for our side?"
Innovindil asked. "Isn't that job something a diplomat should handle?"
"I make do with what I've got." Kerry said, simply.
"Do you have any specific member worlds in mind?" Innovindil asked.
"We'll need to try and rally Security Council members if we can. If we can legitimately replace the Government without force - it'd be better for us." Malone said. "I'm optimistic in the extreme on that front, but its worth a shot."
"I'll start with that, then," Innovindil said with a nod. "If you could transmit me a list, I'll go through it and see what I can do. I do have one other thing I'd like to bring up."
"What's that?" Kerry asked.
"Do you want me to visit any star-bases and see which side they are on? We can't depend entirely on the Klingon Empire for support, and it might even work against us if we operated entirely from another government's borders. The new regime could say that it was an attempt by the Klingons to gain control over the Federation," Innovindil said.
Kerry nodded, appreciating what she was saying. "Its worth a shot, and if we control footholds in Federation space, it'll improve our chances."
"With your permission, I'd like to start with Deep Space Three and Five and then work our way into the Federation," Innovindil said. "I can keep you updated with our progress, and once we establish footholds our forces can start moving to secure them."
"Very well Captain." Kerry said.
"If that's all for now, Admiral, I believe we both have a lot to get done," Innovindil said.
"Very well - carry on." Malone said, closing the channel.
